GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION – IAOI SHARK TANK IN DENTAL IMPLANTOLOGY

1.INTRODUCTION

The Indian Association of Oral Implantologists (IAOI) proudly introduces the “IAOI Shark Tank”, an exclusive platform designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in dental implantology. This initiative aims to provide aspiring dental professionals, researchers, and entrepreneurs an opportunity to present groundbreaking ideas, inventions, and business solutions in implantology to a panel of esteemed experts and potential investors.

The IAOI Shark Tank offers not only financial investment but also mentorship, industry connections, and guidance for successful implementation and scaling of innovative ideas in implantology.

2.OBJECTIVES

  • To foster creativity and innovation in dental implantology by encouraging novel ideas and technologies.
  • To support startups and innovators with resources, funding, and mentorship.
  • To provide a platform for showcasing disruptive solutions in implantology to industry experts and investors.
  • To encourage commercialization of research and development in the field of dental implants.

3.ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Category 1: Innovators and Entrepreneurs

  • Dental practitioners, researchers, or industry professionals with a viable product, service, or solution in implantology.
  • Applicants with novel ideas or patented inventions relevant to dental implantology.

Category 2: Postgraduate Students and Academicians

  • MDS/PhD students or faculty members with research findings that can be transformed into innovative products or services.
  • Innovative clinical solutions, digital workflow models, or advanced biomaterial concepts.

Category 3: Startups and Technology Firms

  • Startups focusing on AI, digital workflows, guided surgery, implant surface modifications, or other advanced technologies in implantology.
  • Companies with a minimum viable product (MVP) ready for clinical testing or commercialization.

Mandatory Requirement:

  • IAOI Membership: All applicants must be active members of the Indian Association of Oral Implantologists (IAOI) at the time of application. Membership ID and validity must be provided during the application process.

4.CATEGORIES OF APPLICATION

Applicants can propose their ideas under the following categories:

  1. Innovative Implant Technologies: New implant designs, surface modifications, and materials.
  2. Digital Implantology Solutions: AI, guided surgery, 3D printing, CAD/CAM, and advanced digital workflows.
  3. Biomaterials and Grafts: Advanced grafting materials, membranes, and novel regenerative solutions.
  4. Clinical Innovations: New treatment protocols, chairside innovations, or improved clinical workflows.
  5. Patient-centric Innovations: Solutions to enhance patient experience, safety, and satisfaction.
  6. Community Outreach and Impact: Innovative models for making implantology affordable and accessible.

5.BENEFITS AND FUNDING STRUCTURE

1.Monetary Grants:

  • Selected ideas may receive funding between ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000 based on the project’s potential, scalability, and impact.

2.Mentorship and Networking:

  • Access to IAOI mentors, industry leaders, and successful entrepreneurs in the field of dental implantology.
  • Hands-on guidance for idea refinement, business planning, and product-market fit.

3.Incubation Support:

  • Access to incubation facilities and research labs for further product development.
  • Legal, financial, and technical guidance to streamline the commercialization process.

4.Implant and Material Sponsorship:

  • Provision of implants, grafts, and materials required for prototype development or clinical validation.

6.APPLICATION PROCESS

Step 1: Concept Note Submission

Applicants must submit a Concept Note that includes:

  • Title of the Innovation/Idea: Concise and relevant.
  • Problem Statement: Description of the clinical/technological gap being addressed.
  • Proposed Solution: Overview of the idea, product, or service.
  • Unique Value Proposition (UVP): How the solution is different and better than existing alternatives.
  • Target Market: Audience and potential beneficiaries.
  • Implementation Plan: Outline of timeline, milestones, and required resources.

Step 2: Detailed Proposal Submission

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a Detailed Proposal including:

  • Background and Rationale: Scientific/technical basis of the innovation.
  • Feasibility and Scalability: Potential for clinical application and commercial viability.
  • Budget and Funding Requirements: Detailed budget with justification for requested funding.
  • Prototype or MVP (if available): Supporting documents such as images, designs, and test data.

Step 3: Pitch Deck Preparation

Shortlisted applicants will be required to prepare a Pitch Deck (10-12 slides) for the final Shark Tank presentation.

The Pitch Deck should include:

  • Problem Statement and Solution.
  • Market Opportunity and Competition.
  • Product/Service Overview.
  • Business Model and Revenue Strategy.
  • Clinical/Research Validation.
  • Team Profile and Expertise.
  • Funding Request and Resource Allocation.

7.REVIEW AND SELECTION PROCESS

Stage 1: Initial Screening

  • Screening for completeness and eligibility.
  • Proposals not meeting guidelines will be disqualified.

Stage 2: Shortlisting

  • Evaluation by a panel of experts based on:
      
    • Scientific and technical merit.
    • Clinical relevance and potential for commercialization.
    • Feasibility, scalability, and impact on the dental implant industry.

Stage 3: Shark Tank Presentation

  • Shortlisted candidates will present their ideas to the IAOI Shark Tank Panel, which includes:
     
    • Senior implantologists and clinicians.
    • Technology and business experts.
    • Potential investors and mentors.

Stage 4: Final Selection and Funding

  • unding decisions will be based on:
    • Innovation potential and impact.
    • Feasibility of implementation.
    • Market readiness and scalability.

8.PITCH FORMAT AND DURATION

  • Pitch Time: 10 minutes per presentation.
  • Q&A Session: 5 minutes with the Shark Tank panel.
  • Prototype Demonstration (if applicable): 3-5 minutes for product demonstration.

9.GRANT UTILIZATION AND REPORTING

  • Utilization of Funds: Funds should be used strictly for product development, prototyping, validation, and commercialization-related activities.
  • Progress Reports: Interim reports every 6 months outlining milestones achieved.
  • Final Report and Commercialization Plan: Submission of a detailed final report with a commercialization strategy and clinical validation data.

10.ETHICAL AND LEGAL COMPLIANCE

  • All research and product development must comply with the guidelines of the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) and adhere to international standards for research ethics.
  • Innovations involving human participants must obtain Informed Consent.

11.INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (IPR)

  • Intellectual property generated through IAOI-funded Shark Tank initiatives shall remain with the innovator/organization.
  • IAOI reserves the right to promote and publish significant outcomes resulting from the funded innovation.

12.TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • The decision of the IAOI Shark Tank Panel will be final and binding.
  • Failure to adhere to guidelines may result in termination of funding and return of disbursed funds.
  • Any changes to the project scope or budget require prior approval from IAOI.
